City history

A city shaped around the Ichamati.

Government municipal history says the Pabna Town Committee was formed on 1 April 1867 around settlement on both banks of the Ichamati. Pabna Municipality followed on 1 July 1876.

District history

Separate-district recognition in 1828.

Pabna District Statistics Office says Pabna was recognized as a separate district on 16 October 1828 and that the joint-magistrate arrangement became permanent in 1832. The district government also records land-related unrest in 1872–73 that developed into a peasant movement.
